昆明理工大学外国语言文化学院简介
外国语言文化学院的历史与昆明理工大学的历史一样长久；1999年与云南工业大学外语系合并，学院的规模和实力得到进一步加强；2009年文学院外语系与大学外语部联合使学科布局进一步合理。几十年的风雨组合与磨砺，造就了如今的师资队伍、桃李满天和学术气候。
The earliest history of the Faculty of Foreign Languages & Cultures (FFLC) dates back to 1954 when KMUST was first established as a university. The year of 1999 witnessed the merge of Foreign Languages Department with its counterpart in Yunnan Polytechnic University as well as its increase both in scale and strength. The re-merge, in 2009, of the Foreign Languages Department with that of College English further rationalized and re-adjusted its academic disciplines and order. The more than five decades’ experience FFLC has lived through has come up with a qualified staff, a large number of excellent graduates, and quite a few academic achievements.
目前，学院设有四个系和一个中心，即大学英语教育一系、大学英语教育二系、英语系、研究生英语教育系和美国研究中心。教师数量146名，其中正副教授39人。为全校师生开设的课程达百门
FFLC presently maintains 4 departments ( First Department of College English Education, Second Department of College English Education, Department of Post-graduate English Education, and Department of English Language & Culture) , one center (the American Studies Center), and a staff of 146, among whom are 39 full and associate professors. FFLC staff are offering about 100 courses for the university.
几代人的呕心沥血，几十年的春华秋实。学院一共为国家培养了几千名英语本科毕业生和上百名英语专业研究生。他们有的成为国外著名大学的教授，有的为大型企业掌舵助力，有的为不同文化间的交流搭建桥梁，……。
The decades’ painstaking effort leads to a fruitful harvest as FFLC sees thousands and hundreds of graduates serving in all walks of life with some of whom are teaching in well-known universities abroad, others managing the large businesses, and many others working to bridge the cultural gaps, ….
经过多年的发展，学院科学研究具有如下特点：以现代语言学、社会语言学、二语习得以及ESP研究为理论基础语言学研究；以英语国家民族文化与我国地方民族文化为背景的跨文化研究；以描述英语习得过程和解释习得特征为主要目标的语言习得研究；以应用翻译实践（技术文件翻译）为基础的翻译理论与实践研究。
The academic progress in FFLC is uniquely featured with: the linguistic research based on sociolinguistics, 2nd language acquisition and ESP; the inter-cultural studies grounded on national cultures of English speaking countries and the cultures of local minority peoples; the language acquisition studies purporting on description of learning experience and interpretation of the acquisition features; the translation studies dealing with technical translation practice.
近五年来，本学科在国内外刊物一共发表论文300篇；专著、译著、论文集10部；主持研究项目17项，其中国家社科基金2项，省厅基金10项，校级项目5项。
For the latest 5 years, FFLC staff has published more than 300 academic essays and books with 17 research projects, 2 of which are at national level.
